Description

Purpose for the Order

The measures contained within this Order are considered expedient and necessary for the following reasons:

Road safety: To improve the safety of all highway users, including pedestrians and cyclists by reducing the speed limit to 20mph.

Traffic Flow and congestion: To facilitate the expeditious and safe movement of vehicular traffic.

Environmental / amenity improvements: To preserve and/or improve the character and amenities of the area for visitors and local residents.

Compliance and legislation

The council has given due regard to the matters specified in Section 122(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (RTRA 1984) and is satisfied that the proposed restrictions will strike an appropriate balance between the need to maintain access, manage traffic, and ensure the safety of the local community.

(SPEED LIMITS) ORDER 2006 (AMENDMENT NO. ) ORDER 

Shropshire Council proposes to introduce a 20mph speed limit onto the following lengths of roads in Shrewsbury:

Horsefair

In its entirety

Abbey Foregate

From its junction with Whitehall Street in a westerly and then south-westerly direction for a distance of 230 metres

Railway Lane

In its entirety

Railway Terrace

In its entirety

Portobello

In its entirety

 

 

Any existing speed limits on these lengths of roads will be revoked.
