Description

Purpose of the order:

The measures contained within this order are considered expedient and necessary for the following reasons:

  • Traffic flow and congestion: to facilitate the expeditious and safe movement of vehicular traffic
  • Environmental / amenity improvements: to preserve and/or improve the character and amenities of the area for visitors and local residents
  • Parking management: to ensure a fair and consistent approach to parking management, providing designated spaces for loading, blue badge holders, and visitors/local residents, while preventing dangerous or indiscriminate parking
  • Compliance and legislation - the council has given due regard to the matters specified in Section 122(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (RTRA 1984) and is satisfied that the proposed restrictions will strike an appropriate balance between the need to maintain access, manage traffic, and ensure the safety of the local community.

Proposal

THE SHROPSHIRE COUNCIL

(PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF WAITING AND PARKING PLACES) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2009 (ABBEY FOREGATE, SHREWSBURY) (AMENDMENT) ORDER

Shropshire Council proposes to make the following changes to the parking restrictions on Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury:

Restricted parking zone no waiting or loading at any time  except in signed bays

Abbey Foregate loop road (both sides)

From its junction with Whitehall Street in a westerly then southwesterly direction for a distance of 230 metres.

Loading only

Abbey Foregate loop road 

(south side)

 

From the northeast side of its junction with Railway Lane for a distance of 19 metres in a southwesterly direction

Disabled badge holders only

Abbey Foregate loop road 

(south side)

From a point 30.5 metres northeast of the extended northeastern kerb line of Railway Lane in a northeasterly direction for a distance of 21 metres.

Limited waiting Mon-Sat, 8am-6.30pm, three hours no return within three hours 

Abbey Foregate Loop Road

(South and West side)

 

From a point 51.5 metres north-east of the extended north-eastern kerb line of Railway Lane in a north- easterly, easterly and then southerly direction to a point 14 metres north of its eastern-most junction with Abbey Foregate.

No waiting at any time

Abbey Foregate loop road

(east side)

 

From its junction with Whitehall Street to its eastern-most junction with Abbey Foregate.

 

Any existing restrictions at the above locations will be revoked.
