Changes to various Car Parks around the County |

Description |
Shropshire Council is proposing to make an Order to facilitate a number of proposals related to the phased implementation and provision of its new parking strategy. It is proposed to set standard banding levels and introduce new tariffs for parking including the introduction of tariffs charged at a linear hourly rate enabling customers only to have to pay for the period of parking they require. In specified car parks the proposals include an 8 hour cap on parking tariffs, the introduction of weekly tickets, the additional provision of season tickets, off-street residents permits and availability of new concessions on Sundays, bank and public holidays. Pay and display parking provision for cars and small vans will also be introduced at the Crossways, Church Stretton site. It is also proposed to remove all existing restrictions on periods of maximum stay and minimum return, as well as provide a free 5 minute concessionary parking period in all pay and display car parks. In Shrewsbury, it is proposed that the hours of charging using linear tariffs on all Shropshire Council pay and display car parks within the river loop (with the exception of St Julian's Friars car park) and on Frankwell Main, Quay and Riverside carparks are extended until 8pm. It is also proposed to extend the opening hours of Raven Meadows multi storey carpark to 24 hours,7 days a week and provide a 3 hour cap on the linear tariff of 3 hours between the hours of 8pm and 8am. These changes are intended to improve overall parking service provision, promote the efficient use and management of car parks and be a contributing factor in reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, minimising congestion and improve vibrancy in market towns. |
