Local context and aspirations

Recognising the unique qualities of Shrewsbury town centre - including its relationship with the River Severn, medieval street patterns, landmark buildings, and open spaces - the code sets out aspirations for high-quality design. It includes a self-assessment checklist to help applicants and planning officers evaluate the design and placemaking credentials of proposed developments.

Community involvement

The document was shaped through input from local stakeholders and the public, including workshops and an online forum. It aligns with the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan and the Shrewsbury Movement and Public Space Strategy, and is intended to be a material consideration in the planning application process.
