Consultation on the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy to be developed by Shropshire Council and Staffordshire County Council, in their roles as Lead Local Flood Authorities (as defined by the Flood and Water Management Act 2010).
The Flood and Water Management Act 2010, enacted by Government in response to the recommendations of The Pitt Review, designated unitary and county councils as Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs) with new responsibilities for leading and co-ordinating the management of local flood risk; namely the flood risk arising from surface water runoff, groundwater and ordinary watercourses. This includes a statutory duty to develop, maintain, apply and monitor a strategy for the management of local flood risk.
In the spirit of the Act, and recognising the current economic climate, Shropshire Council and Staffordshire County Council have entered into a collaborative working agreement with regard to fulfilling their duties as Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs).
This Local Flood Risk Management Strategy offers the first opportunity for us to formalise our longer term vision and shape individual priorities that deliver the greatest benefit to the people, property and environment of Shropshire and Staffordshire.
