Pay by phone - Shrewsbury car parks

Proposal

Shropshire Council is proposing to trial through its current service provider provisions to allow customers to pay for their chosen parking tariff via phone or other suitable electronic means in the following car parks in Shrewsbury:

Town Centre Short Stay Car Parks

Bridge Street - Proposed Location Code 740001
St Austin's - Proposed Location Code 740002
The Tannery - Proposed Location Code 740003

Town Centre Long Stay Car Park

Frankwell Main - Proposed Location Code 740004

From 7  April 2014 details on how to register for the scheme will be available on information signs on the pay and display machines at each of the trial parking places and registration to the ‘Cashless Parking Provider' software known as MIPermit will also be made available on our parking pages.

Customers wishing to use this as a method of payment of the daily parking charge will be required on first use, to supply the ‘Cashless Parking Provider' with the relevant registration number of the vehicle, location code of the parking place, credit or debit card details, and any other details the Council or provider may from time to time require, which is accepted by the Council as a valid method of payment for the relevant time of use of the parking place.

A service charge currently set at 10p and known as the ‘Convenience Charge' will be payable by the customer for using the service provided by the ‘Cashless Parking Provider' in addition to the appropriate daily charge set by the Council. Other charges may be applied should the customer wish to purchase any additional services offered by the ‘Cashless Parking Provider'. The customer will be responsible for all additional costs with the service provider of their phone, or other suitable electronic means, used in any transactions relating to purchases from the ‘Cashless Parking Provider'.

Customers who have previously signed up to the MIPermit scheme for parking waivers will need to activate a new account both for parking waivers and any future cashless parking as we are changing the Merchant Identification Number for processing our parking online payments. This is in order to reduce the current costs for the online payments.

The scheme supports requests from local business to move towards cashless parking provision, and permits the Council to gain data and feedback regarding the current and future use of this service and the potential costs to the Authority.
