Proposal

Background information

Public services are changing; demographic and financial pressures mean that continuing to deliver the status quo is impossible.  We have responded to these pressures in our Business Plan and Financial Strategy 2014-2017 by pledging to: 

• redesign everything we do to focus on what will benefit the customer and residents, to reduce demand and lower the cost of services
• plan our budgets around needs rather than juggling the same monies
• stop doing the things we do that don't make a difference, or that we don't need to do
• re-size the workforce
• sell buildings and land that are unproductive; to better equip those that are retained to ensure they are productive and save revenue
• renegotiate contracts to deliver the same for at least 10% less
• sell our services and products to new customers for a profit

Over the next three years, we will be transforming from a Council that delivers most of its services directly to customers and residents, to a Council that commissions other agencies to deliver those services.  We will however, still have responsibility for ensuring that those services are fit for purpose and meet the needs of those using the services.

In consultation with residents and local businesses, we have identified five aspirations which people have said are important to them:

1. “To live in an attractive, vibrant and safe environment in a place that is right for me”
2. “To feel confident that the Council is doing the right thing with my money and that my needs are at the centre of any decisions about me”
3. “To feel valued as an individual and to live my life with my choices respected and with as few compromises as possible”
4. “To live a long, enjoyable and healthy life”
5. “To feel financially secure and to believe  in a positive future for myself and my family”

The survey

Whilst we will aim to ensure everything we do works towards achieving these aspirations, we need you to help us understand if we really are meeting them. We would be grateful if you, as representatives of the wider Shropshire people, to take part in this tracker survey.

We will ask the same questions every 3 months and track the feedback we get to see if, in general, people think better or worse about the services they receive, how they feel about us as a Council, and how well they feel we are achieving a better quality of life for Shropshire people. 

This initial round of the survey will help us establish a baseline and we would ask that you continue to take part in this survey following this round to help us get an accurate perception tracker going forward.

The survey should only take about five minutes of your time and is completely anonymous.
