What is the Local Offer?

Families tell us that they want to know what services and support is on offer locally for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. They also tell us that it is important for information to be easily accessible and have enough detail to help them make informed choices about the right services for children and young people. This need has been recognised and every council has a role to play in providing information to help families, this is known as the Local Offer.

The Local Offer is likely to comprise the following themes:

• Information and Support - to find out about parent support, support for children including parent carer support groups and services
• Education 0-25 years - to find out about special educational needs in the early years, primary, secondary schools and beyond
• Childcare
• Health - find out about healthcare provision and services
• Care - find out about care services
• Statements and assessments - Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP) and other assessments
• Moving into adult life - preparing for adulthood including transition from children's services to adult services for both health and care
• Transport - find out about when and what transport is available
• Leisure - things to do and places to go.
• How do things get paid for - budgets and charges
