Shropshire Council announced the permanent closure of Whitchurch Swimming Centre in June 2021 following the discovery of extensive structural issues that were identified during the closure of the facility due to coronavirus. It's now a priority of Shropshire Council to provide a new facility for the community in Whitchurch with a projected opening in Autumn 2025.
Business case modelling and a facility mix study have been undertaken as part of a detailed feasibility study to provide a replacement facility in Whitchurch that will have the following core aims:
Shropshire Council's cabinet on 27 April 2022 resolved:
To agree that the proposed plans be the subject of a formal public consultation exercise and that a further report be brought to cabinet following completion of the consultation.
